The loss of Jasper Police Chief Anthony "Tony" Rickerson has left a void throughout Jasper and at the Rickerson home. Chief Rickerson, who passed away on Sunday, June 11, was a man of value and high character, and was known for his compassion toward others. He embodied everything desired of a public servant and embraced his role. He held himself and his department to a higher standard of excellence, knowing the impact their actions had on others. Rickerson loved being a police officer, and cared for his department and the City of Jasper just as much as he did his family. While he has departed from this world, his legacy will continue to live on through his reputation and the compassion he showed during his time on Earth. His actions throughout his life have led to the organization of a memorial fund page that will go directly to the City of Jasper Police Department and its officers. Donations will also contribute to a scholarship for future candidates hoping to attend the police academy. Chief Rickerson took pride in his uniform and his badge and through this scholarship, he will, in turn, provide someone else the opportunity to take pride in protecting the very city and people he so loved.
