On Tuesday, May 13, the White Springs Town Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting began with public comment. First to speak was Robert Gamsby, who complained that the proposals to be heard later that night were extremely vague. Attorney Joel Foreman explained before further public comment about the proposals, the process for a public hearing, and stated there would be a section for the public to comment on the specific proposal. The next public comment was from Beth Daniel, who asked about a posted public meeting that was supposed to happen that day at 6 p.m. The council responded that was incorrect and there was no meeting. Daniel then asked about the planning and zoning board, as they had not met. The council told her that it was the planning and zoning board's own job to set up their own meetings. The final comment was from Tony Grace, who stated he was concerned about dirt-bikes and all terrain vehicles going up and down his road at night. Mayor Anita Rivers commented that she lived on the same road and also acknowledged the issue. She said the only solution was to contact the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and get them to catch the offenders in the act.
The board then moved into a presentation from Brandon Stubbs about zoning changes for an area that was looking to be developed. However, after some discussion, it was decided to table the item so the public and council could look over the proposals in depth and be more prepared for the presentation.
The board then swore in their two new council members, Linnie Pope and Kizzy Burch. After announcing there would be a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 17, at Stephen Foster Park and approving the purchase of a new fire hydrant, the meeting was adjourned. The next town council meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the White Springs Town Hall, located at 10363 Bridge St., in White Springs.
