Emily Murphy, a kindergarten teacher at Suwannee Springcrest Elementary, has just finished her eighth year teaching. However, this year, she finished with a new honor: being named District Teacher of the Year.
Murphy was inspired as a child by the many different teachers she had throughout school. As she continued through life, she thought about how she could be most effective in helping others, and teaching came to the forefront of her mind. “The value you put into kids is worth more than money,” she said. When asked how she felt about this honor, Murphy said: “Extremely humbled. Anyone at my school could have been named District Teacher of the Year.” She continued, stating, “We're all only as good as our team. I am humbled I was chosen at my school, much less my district.”
Murphy says the hardest part about teaching is saying goodbye to the kids that she has worked with the years. That doesn't compare, though, to the joy of seeing the growth in students as she builds relationships with them.
Murphy also gave a shoutout to the Suwannee Springcrest Elementary team, and all the hard work they do teaching the future generation. “Every educator deserves this honor at least once,” she said.
