Suwannee High School weightlifting stand-out Marqavious Owens was selected as the 2023 Boys Florida Dairy Farmers Association Weightlifter of the Year. Owens competed in his junior season in the 154 pound weight-class, where he advanced through the regular season, as well as District and Regional Championships, on his way to winning two individual State Championships in both the traditional and Olympic events. In the traditional event, Owens out-lifted the competition by 15 pounds for a total of 560 pounds. Then, in the Olympic event, he helped lift his team to back-to-back State Champions by out-lifting the competition with a total lift of 485 pounds. Owens is no stranger to the big stage. Just in his junior season, he has now competed for three State Championships over his career. The Bulldogs entered the season with many questions surrounding their roster after such a decorated senior class graduated last year. However, Owens quickly fell into the leadership role by exhibiting a hard work ethic and dedication. Therefore, upon the conclusion of another championship run, Owens was named the 2023 Florida Dairy Farmers Association Boys Weightlifter of the Year.
