On Tuesday, May 2, the Jennings Town Council gathered prior to its regularly scheduled meeting for an opportunity to meet and greet the new Chief of Police, Reginald Akins, at City Hall.
Following the meet and greet, the council convened for its monthly meeting. Mayor Charles Barrett conducted the meeting with Vice Mayor Antonette Crumedy, Councilman John Prine, Councilwoman Samantha Prueter, Councilwoman Cynthia Daniels, Town Manager Jennifer Hightower and Town Attorney Sheena Rickerson also in attendance.
On the agenda was the formal introduction of new Police Chief Akins and the continued discussion of the fire service agreements. Akins is a Hamilton County native who has spent a career of 20 years in law enforcement. As such, he will be able to build relationships and relate to the citizens of Jennings. In return, the city council hopes the citizens will feel equally comfortable with Akins watching over them.
Second on the agenda was an update on the discussion of fire service coverage. Rickerson stated the talks are still ongoing, and an agreement has not been reached at this time.
The next scheduled Jennings Town Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 6, at 7 p.m. in City Hall, located at 1291 Florida St. in Jennings.
