This year has been crazy; wasn’t it just yesterday it was March? We have no memories of anything we did for six months, for we were not “allowed” to do anything. It seems as if we skipped summer altogether.
But here we are … and October is upon us.
I personally love October and the Halloween holiday. I love haunted houses; I love corn mazes; and I love dressing up in costumes every year (yes … even at “my age). I will drive anywhere, within a day’s traveling time, in order to go to a good haunted house because I love the thrill of haunted houses and being scared. Every October I spend my weekends driving to different towns, within the area, to stand in line for hours, just so someone that is dressed up can jump out and scare me (I’m such a kid at heart).
This year, however, so many towns have canceled their haunted houses. Even the big theme parks have, including Wild Adventures, Universal Studios and Busch Gardens. So, that leaves so many Halloween and haunted house lovers, like me, missing out on one of our favorite times of the year (as if the coronavirus hasn’t already stripped us of so many other things this year).
So, it is with great pleasure that I would like to invite everyone to Madison County to enjoy Halloween. The Madison County Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with the Ragans Family Campground to bring good scares to all that venture to their very own haunted houses.
Every Friday and Saturday night, throughout the entire month of October, the Madison County Chamber of Commerce will have a haunted house at their office building (the agricultural Livestock Show arena) located at 182 NW College Loop, in Madison. Garrett Hammond has combined his “Hammond Hauntings” in with the Madison County Chamber’s haunted house and has been working for almost two months turning the pig barn, show arena and steer barn into a haunted house you will never forget! Go get your scare on beginning at 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. (or until the last group goes through the house). The cost to experience this thrill is only $5 and all proceeds go to the Madison County Chamber of Commerce.
After that creepy house, drive on down to the Ragans Family Campground, located at 1051 SW Old St. Augustine Rd, in Madison (right off of I-10, exit 258) and enjoy their haunted house and haunted trail. They have produced a yearly, continual scare that has brought back their victims year after year. They are also open each Friday and Saturday night, throughout the month of October, from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
So, don’t let the coronavirus ruin October too; pack the family up and go get spooked in the haunted houses in Madison. It will be a fun night to always remember!
