The Lafayette High School varsity softball Hornets (5-13) traveled to Chiefland to take on the Indians (5-9-1) on Monday, April 10. the Hornets were coming off a big win over the Madison County Cowgirls, while the Indians were coming off a dominating win over the Newberry Panthers. The Hornets were led onto the field by Emma Swann in the circle. Swann lasted 2.1 allowing six runs, zero earned runs on six hits. At the plate, the Hornets were led Gloria Gilliam who collect four hits on five at bats, while driving in two runs and scoring two runs.
With the Hornets trailing 11-10 in their last at bat, Swann got things going as she drew a walk with one out. Hancock would move her over on an infield error by the Indians. With Swann in scoring position, Jaley Moseley forces another Indians infield error that would score Swann to tie the game 11-11. Then with Hancock on third base, Kambry Moseley grounds out on a fielders choice to score Hancock from third while moving Jaley Moseley over into scoring position at second base. The hornets took the lead 12-11 with two out, before adding their final run of the night on a single by Gilliam to make the score 13-11. The Hornets would hold the Indians in the bottom of the seventh for the Hornets sixth win of the season 13-11.
