On Tuesday, April 4, at 6:27 a.m., a Jacksonville semi driver was transported to HCA Suwannee Emergency following an accident on US Highway 27 in downtown Mayo. According to a witness traveling in the eastbound lane behind the truck, the semi began drifting to the right while navigating the curve past the intersection of Northwest Bloxham Street and US Highway 27. The driver then overcorrected, causing the semi to travel into the westbound lane. The driver then proceeded to overcorrect his path of travel once more, causing the semi to drive off the road, where it made contact with roughly six unoccupied vehicles at Auto Unique before coming to its final resting place at the Mayo Laundromat. According to the witness' statement, speed was not a factor in the accident. The driver was able to exit the vehicle under his own power. The driver's last stop was set for NAPA Auto Parts on East Main Street.
