The Florida Department of Health in Suwannee County in partnership with Elder Options and Elder Affairs will be providing the Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) at no charge to participants. The DEEP diabetes self-management program has been shown to be successful in helping participants take control of their disease and reduce the risk of complications.
The first session of the six-part DEEP series will be held in the lobby of the Department of Health in Suwannee County, located at 915 Nobles Ferry Rd., in Live Oak, starting on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 5:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
The diabetes self-management sessions emphasize practicing healthy living habits, such as eating healthy, staying active, not smoking, checking cholesterol, limiting alcohol use, controlling blood pressure, managing stress and talking with one’s health care team. DEEP workshop participants learn from the topics:
- What can I eat…? Can I still eat my favorite foods?
- Move it! Get your Cha Cha on!
- Diabetes medication, herbs and more.
- Keep your diabetes in check.
- Eyes, teeth, toes and feet.
