Branford High School's Madison Ward, Haylee Adair and Aubrey Wood laid siege on the RP Funding Center in Polk County for the Class 1A Weightlifting State Championships. For sophomore Ward, it was her second appearance in two years. Ward competed in the 129-pound weight class, where she placed ninth in the Olympic event with a total lift of 240 pounds. She placed 15th in the traditional event with a total lift of 240 pounds.
Joining Ward was junior Adair, who competed in the 199-pound weight class for the Olympic event, where she placed 15th with a lift of 245 pounds.
Freshman Wood made her first appearance at the State Championship stage, where she competed in the 183-pound weight class for the Olympic event. Wood would not record a score on the day.
The Buccaneers entered the season with several key holes to fill on the team, and Coach Misty Ward could not have been more pleased with her team. They all bought into the program and sacrificed so much of their time and effort in hopes of building a great team. The Buccaneers earned back-to-back Class 1A District 7 Championship on their way to another strong Regional showing and State Championship appearance.
