Each month, the Lafayette County School District honors four students for displaying outstanding character, effort and academic achievement. Through their hard work, these students become role models for what it means to be a Hornet.
In December, Carlei Ruff (K-2) and Layne Branch (3-5) were announced as the Students of the Month for Lafayette Elementary School (LES). Kenlee Riley was announced as Lafayette Middle School's Student of the Month, and Felix Hernandez was announced as Lafayette High School's Student of the Month.
During the Lafayette County School Board regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 17, January's Students of the Month were recognized. Representing LES's grades K-2 was Shariah Macklin, who was nominated for making “significant improvements” and for providing help “to the students, as well as the adults in the classroom.” Dana Suta was recognized as LES's grades 3-5 Student of the Month. Suta was nominated by her teacher for working hard to “both understand and speak much of the English language.” Because of her efforts, she has progressed from reading on a first grade level to reading on a fifth grade level.
Alana Dawson was recognized as Lafayette Middle School's Student of the Month for working “extremely hard in math,” which has resulted in her increasing her score by 31 points on progress monitoring. Rounding out the honorees is Silas Fletcher, who was recognized as Lafayette High School's Student of the Month for always being “willing to do whatever is asked of him” and for giving “his best at every aspect of his life.”
Each Student of the Month received a certificate, a folder, a tee-shirt and a card allowing them access to any of the district games.
