Most every American can remember where they were when they heard the tragic news that two planes had been hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the World Trade Centers in New York. It was a day that will be forever etched into the heart and lives of Americans, as we mourned the loss of thousands of civilians and first responders. To honor those who lost their lives that September morning, the Westwood Christian School held a special service on the morning of Friday, Sept. 11.
Westwood Christian School invited local first responders to stand in recognition of those who lost their lives trying to save the lives of others. Among those recognized at this service was members of the Live Oak Police Department, the Live Oak Fire Department, the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office and Suwannee County Fire Rescue.
On the stage where the service was held was an American Flag that was made by the students. The stars of the flag were tiny handprints of the children and the stripes were made to resemble blood dripping down. In front of the American Flag was a display that resembled skyscrapers in New York, but the Twin Towers were glowing.
“Seeing New York city buildings on display amidst the back drop of our American flag made by tiny hand prints for stars and running red stripes was almost much to bare dry eyed,” said the Live Oak Police Department on their Facebook page.
