Showmanship is a skill 4-H members use to present their animals when exhibiting at the livestock shows. This is a skill that takes time, practice and patience to develop.
This skill is an evaluation of the exhibitor’s ability to present their animal to be best of their ability, answer questions related to their project and exhibit sportsmanship to their fellow exhibitors. This year, I am excited to host the First Annual Showmanship Clinic for cattle and swine youth exhibitors here in Suwannee County.
The clinic will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Suwannee County Fairgrounds and is open to youth ages eight to 18 who would like to advance their showmanship skills. Participants who wish to attend can sign-up via Eventbrite with the following link: www.eventbrite.com/e/showmanship-clinic-tickets-482563028007.
The event costs $5 to attend and please note there is a limitation to 20 cattle and 20 swine exhibitors to provide the attendees the best learning opportunities. Attendees can look forward to a day full of learning opportunities including daily care, show day preparation, show ring presence and animal exhibition tips.
This day will be an opportunity for youth members to develop their skills and build confidence before the fair. If you have any questions, please reach out to Erin Jones, Livestock Agent for UF/IFAS Suwannee County, an Equal Opportunity Institute, at (386) 362-2771.
