Even though 2023 has just started, criminals take no breaks. On Monday, Jan. 2, the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reported receiving multiple calls regarding a new scam involving the sheriff’s office. The scammers call citizens, pretending to work for the SCSO Civil Division. They will say they need to speak to the individual about an important matter or say they require money for the individual to avoid being arrested. The official SCSO advises they will never call and demand money to avoid arrests. If an individual is worried about possibly having warrants, they are welcome to call the SCSO main office at (386) 362-2222.
Furthermore, SCSO would like to remind residents that real businesses do not ask for money via gift cards. Any phone calls asking to be paid in such manner will always be a scam.
