The Suwannee High School (SHS) Bulldogs varsity basketball team began a new chapter, as they were led by new Head Coach Cedric Booth, who was a very successful coach at Trenton High School. However, there is typically a bit of a learning curve as the players and coaches begin gauge each other.
Although this is his first season at SHS, Coach Booth refuses to lower his team's expectations. The Bulldogs' learning curve took two games, as they lost their season opener to the Gadsden County Jaguars, 72-60, then dropped their second game to the San Jose Prep Storm, 70-50.
However, the tides began to change on Tuesday, Nov. 29, as the Bulldogs faced off against the undefeated Echols County Wildcats. The Bulldogs proved to be a threat to the Wildcats' season record, as their defense swarmed their opponent all night, capitalizing many times on turnovers and fast breaks.
Although both teams were even on the scoreboards, it was the Bulldogs' speed and tenacity that allowed them to make easy work of the Wildcats.
The Wildcats began the game with a quick 6-2 lead. However, the Bulldogs bounced back and ran away with the game from that point on. The only thing slowing them down was their own fouls. Despite this, the Bulldogs ended the first quarter with a 12 point lead, and ended the first half with a 25 point lead, 47-22.
It was more of the same in the second half, as MJ Rossin led his team up and down the court, closing out the Wildcats, 86-35, earning the Bulldogs their first win of the season, and earning Head Coach Booth his first win as a Bulldogs.
