We can call them "Santa's Helpers," the "Hands Behind the Hands" or whatever term we may choose, but here's a certainty: hours and hours of work and preparation go into our many outstanding Christmas events held throughout our area.
I am thinking about Christmas on the Square in Live Oak, which was held this past weekend and is, in my opinion, one of, if not THE, most outstanding Christmas events held anywhere. Here's the thing, as festival goers, we see wonderful booths, outstanding decorations and a great parade complete with lights. What we don't see is all the work and effort to set these events up and to take them down. Hats off to everyone who is responsible. We appreciate you. You may not realize it, but your hard work creates many indelible holiday memories. How do I know? I have been revisiting some of my own.
Events during the holidays we could attend as a family were fewer than those held now, but I remember them with clarity and fondness. Those who work hard to bring Suwannee Lights at Spirit of the Suwannee, Stephen Foster's Festival of Lights, Christmas on the Square and other holiday events, you are providing precious gifts, memories that will last a lifetime for children young and old.
In this post COVID world, we can truly celebrate not just the bright lights, the presents and the decorations, but the true meaning of Christmas – that child born in Bethlehem's manger that brought hope to the world, a hope kept alive today by many thoughtful and caring individuals with a servant's heart who give a gift of hope and joy that lasts far longer than the Christmas season.
Memories that you create can last a lifetime, and that is a gift that keeps on giving. Thank you. God bless you! From the Eight Mile Still on the Woodpecker Route north of White Springs, wishing you a good day.
