Suwannee Springcrest Elementary (SSE) heard about Pine Island Elementary School’s (PIES) struggles through a former employee, Wendy Stevens, whose daughter-law teaches there. The SSE Student Lighthouse Team decided to do a toy drive after Stevens explained to them that all of the students at Pine Island had supplies and the necessities, but lost toys and other items which brought them joy. “Our Student Lighthouse Team has a great deal of empathy and suggested the toy drive,” event organizer Theda Roper said. The Toy Drive started on Tuesday, Nov. 1, and at the time of writing this article, the school has received about 600 donations.
Donations of new toys for students in Kindergarten through fifth grade can be dropped off at Suwannee Springcrest Elementary, located at 1748 Ohio Ave. S, in Live Oak. The toy drive will continue through Tuesday, Nov. 28, and the toys will be transported on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
