Carroll Norman Pearson, 89, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022. Carroll was born in Mayo, Fla., where he graduated from Lafayette High School in 1951. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in England. After serving four years, he attended the University of Florida and graduated with a degree in accounting. He moved to Fort Lauderdale to begin his career as a licensed CPA and later retired as a partner with McGladrey & Pullen. It was there that he met his wife, Madge Rockwell and had two children, Norman and Mary Beth. He enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing. He participated and served in various capacities for the Executives' Association of Fort Lauderdale, Coral Ridge Country Club, Gator Club and Christ United Methodist Church, to name a few. Upon retirement, he moved to Gainesville, Fla. and was joined by several other families from South Florida. There, he was active and served in various roles at the Gainesville Country Club, Grace Methodist Church, Gator Tip-Off club, and his beloved Ptomaine Club. In 2020, he moved to Knoxville, Tenn., to join his daughter.
Carroll was predeceased by his parents, Barney and Vaye Pearson, his wife Madge, his son Norman, and siblings Charlie, Ray and Sara. He will be remembered by his daughter, Mary Beth Blake (Tom) of Knoxville; sister, Gwynell Pepin, Jewett City, Conn., daughter-in-law, Karen Pearson; two sisters-in-law: Peggy Pearson (DeLeon Springs) and Carolyn Pearson (Mayo); three grandchildren: Hannah Blake, Owen Blake and Katherine Pearson; and many nieces and nephews in Florida, Connecticut and Ohio.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at Grace at Fort Clarke United Methodist Church on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m., followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace at Fort Clarke United Methodist Church, 9325 W. Newberry Rd. Gainesville, Fla., 32606.
