On Friday, Oct. 28, the Suwannee High School boys' and girls' cross country teams traveled to the New World of Golf in Jacksonville for their opportunity to advance to the State Championships. The Bulldog boys were looking for their second championship trip in two years, while the Lady Bulldogs were looking for their first appearance.
The boys were led by Morgan Mobley with a time of 17:20.20, well enough to place 27th on the day. Next was Brigadere “Brig” Scott with a time of 17:21.00, placing 28th on the day. Rounding out the Bulldogs' team were Paul Gunter in 38th place with a time of 17:41.50, and Issac Starling in 49th place on the day with a time of 18:12.70. Combined, the team earned a score of 210 points. This score earned them an eighth-place finish and qualified them for a run at the State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla.
Although the girls' team did not qualify for a chance at the State Championships, Ryleigh Hermanson did have a career day, as she broke the Lady Bulldogs' school record with a time of 20:50.30. This record previously belonged to Katie Stalvey with a time of 21:18, which was made in 2013. Hermanson's time placed her 34th on the day out of a field of 112.
