On Monday, Oct. 4, the Suwannee High School swim team traveled to Fernandina Beach for a tri-meet against the Fernandina Pirates and the Yulee Hornets. The Bulldogs were looking for a strong outing against what they knew would be tough competition. As the meet got underway, the team knew they were going to rely on their young stars, Cade Cannon, Ainsleigh Pack and Colt Abersold.
Suwannee’s young team posed varying times throughout the meet. Leading the way for the boys was Cannon, who claimed the Bulldogs’ only first-place finish on the day with a time of 6:05.88 in the 500-yard freestyle. Cannon beat the second-place finisher by an impressive 17 seconds and out-swam the third-place time by more than two minutes, earning seven points for his Bulldogs. In total, Cannon led all Bulldogs by collecting a total of 29 points on the day. Also contributing to Suwannee’s score was Colt Abersold, who posted a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:18.19, earning his team five more points. A host of other Bulldog boys competed on the day, earning them a team score of 58 and a second-place finish.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Olivia Schneider, who collected a total of 17 points and a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Also contributing were Pack and Carli Mantooth, both of whom earned 16 points throughout the day. With the contributions of a host of other swimmers, the Lady Bulldogs managed to post a team score of 34 points, earning them a third-place finish on the day.
Both team scores combined for an overall score of 92 points, earning a third-place finish. The Bulldogs were back in the pool on Tuesday, Oct. 11, as they hosted the West Nassau Warriors. Keep an eye out for coverage of this meet on Riverbend News’ website.
