Since 2013, Writers INK has been meeting to help fellow writers sharpen their skills and publish their books. Jonnie Whittington and Delores Leggett Walker began the group and they have since helped 20 writers to successfully cross the publishing hurdle.
At times, the group has grown to large numbers of writers who have benefitted from the wise counsel and insights gained from their fellow writers. Every Tuesday, at 10 a.m., the group meets at the Lafayette County Public Library and everyone present has the opportunity to read a portion of their latest writings. After they have completed their reading, members of the group will share insights and suggestions that might improve their text. There is also plenty of encouragement to be found in their comments that helps this gathering to have a family atmosphere. “We are not here to critique, but to help everybody publish their best work,” said Walker. The most prolific writer in the group is Whittington, who has published 20 books. Their youngest author, Dayla Ann Driver-Daniels, is 12 years old and published her first book last year.
If you are interested in joining Writers INK, stop by the library and pay them a visit. The Lafayette County Public Library is located at 120 NE Crawford St., in Mayo.
