According to a release from the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), deputies arrived on scene to find two male victims with gunshot wounds. One victim, identified as the homeowner, had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the face and was transported to the hospital. The second victim was identified as the homeowner's 27-year-old son. The son was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The suspect was still on scene when deputies arrived and was identified as a 52-year-old Earnest Turner from Mayo. LCSO received assistance from the FDLE and their Crime Scene Unit. Charges are pending and this is still an active investigation. The victims' next of kin have been notified. Per the families' request, their names will not be released per Marcy's Law. “This is a tragic and sad incident for the family involved and Lafayette County,” LCSO stated in the release.
