Suwannee High School teacher Elisa Hall is planning a project for her English II class, where they will form pen pals with retired members of the community. The purpose of this project is for students to bring joy to people in the community, while also gaining wisdom from them. There are many benefits to being a pen pal, including improved reading and writing skills, and encouraging perspective-taking. Being a pen pal also promotes patience, fosters an interest in social studies, and supports the development of social skills.
If you are a retired member of the Suwannee County community who would like to participate in the Golden Pen Pal Project, please contact Hall at elisa.hall@suwannee.k12.fl.us. As a participant in this project, the only commitment will be to read and respond to letters the students write.
