On Friday, Aug. 5, North Central Florida Resource Officers Caring for Kids (NCF ROCK) held its first ever Back to School Bash. According to its Facebook, NCF ROCK, “was created to educate, assist and provide for the needs and safety of underfunded and underserved at-risk youth in our community.” The event, held at Suwannee Springcrest Elementary, was open to all Suwannee County students.
At 4 p.m., students began arriving for a fun evening, and they were not disappointed. Winn Dixie, the Suwannee Baptist Association and Travis Henry with Edward Jones Financial all made generous donations to the event. The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) showed their support for the event and for the School Resource Division as well, by helping provide items from SCSO. Students were treated to all kinds of pleasantries, including free hotdogs, snow cones and popcorn. They were also able to enjoy music, outdoor games and even a bounce house and an inflatable obstacle course. They were also invited to see different aspects of SCSO’s equipment and job, including one of their armored vehicles. The bash proved to be an exciting closure to summer vacation, with students being excited to return to school the following week.
