The Suwannee High School Bulldogs probably won't see too many surprises when they square off against the Raiders of Santa Fe High School at home on Friday, Sept. 4. According to Bulldog Head Coach Kyler Hall, the rivalry has been going on for many years and has been the source of many great football games. Last season, the Bulldogs won a hard-fought game that went down to the wire and ended in a 30-23, come from behind Bulldog victory.
“I don't expect any different this year,” said Coach Hall. “[The Raiders] have a talented quarterback and running back. It's gonna be a great game.” The Raiders have a big front line, anchored by Senior Najhay Calhoun, a 6'3”, 304 lb. offensive tackle who also plays defensive tackle. Calhoun is not only big, but very quick, with a talent for getting off blocks and disrupting plays.
Bulldog Senior Jaquez Moore will be a player to watch this season. Last year, he racked up 1,355 all-purpose yards and 16 touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Moore had a big game against the Raiders in last season's contest, toting the pigskin for 111 yards on 12 carries and one trip into the end-zone.
There will be no limitations on the number of fans allowed into the stadium. Face coverings are optional. For the safety of coaches and students, fans will not be allowed on the field after the game. This will also be Senior Night for the Bulldogs. There will be a pre-game ceremony saluting members of the Class of 2021. The ceremony will begin at approximately 6:45 p.m., at 302 Parshley Street Southwest in Live Oak.
Kickoff for the contest is slated for 7 p.m.
