Jeannette “Jan” Estep, 82, of Live Oak, Fla., passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022. Estep was born on March 14, 1940, in Watertown, S.D., to the late Eva (Davis) and Oliver Mitchell. Estep was the matriarch of the family and was always proud of her family and their accomplishments. She grew up with simple joys in life. Her first job was as a cashier in South Dakota. Estep loved being with and helping people. In 1982, a life change brought Estep to Florida, where she worked for the Veteran’s Administration in Miami for over 17 years. She was an outdoors girl. She enjoyed fishing and gardening. She would sew more during the winter months. Estep is survived by her loving and devoted children, Lena Provenzale (Lenny), Joseph Carter (Julie), Eva Carter and Dena Billy (Lance); 10 grandchildren; siblings, Nina Pipkin (Jerry) and Jerry Mitchell; and numerous great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. Estep was proceeded in death by her parents, Eva and Oliver Mitchell; daughter, Tina Johns; twin brother, Jean Mitchell and sister, Delia Noess. She will be remembered for her determining spirit, love of family and community, and her tender heart.
Estep will be laid to rest on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Goodwin Cemetery in Goodwin, S.D. Arrangements trusted to ICS Cremation and Funeral Home, 357 NW Wilks Ln., Lake City, Fla. 32055.
