On Friday, June 17, The Arc North Florida, Inc., presented their first-ever Dancing Under the Stars prom-like experience for members of their programs. The event, held at Melody Christian Church, provided individuals with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy an evening of music, dancing and delicious food.
Over 125 participants were in attendance, including staff and clients from ResCare and CARC in Lake City; Life is Good, serving the Lake City and Live Oak areas; The Arc North Florida Baker ADT, Live Oak ADT and both group homes. There were also plenty of friends and family members who joined the festivities.
“We want our communities to know how amazing the people we work with are,” said Lakeisha Williams, ADT Supervisor. “Because, they are amazing.”
The Arc North Florida, Inc., would like to thank the following businesses and individuals for their support: Melody Christian Church, for allowing the use of their facility; Howland's, for the tea and coffee stations; the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office, for helping with parking and traffic; Howard Street Dry Cleaning, for cleaning the gowns and suits at no charge; Paparazzi Jewelry, represented by Ericka Brown; Karla Campbell, Olivia Williams and Cathy Vicker, for doing hair and make-up; Ashley Anderson, for decorating; the Social Sewing Club, for holding a clothes closet for attendees to select their attire from; Elana Owens, for taking photos throughout the night; Phyllis Postell, for doing alterations; and Marteen Clayton, for the staff shirts. They would also extend a thank you to all the people who sponsored individuals with monetary donations, as well as a thank you for all of the donations of gowns and suits they received.
“This night was a time to remember for all involved and we could not have achieved it without all of you in our community,” The Arc North Florida, Inc., said. “A very special shout out goes to all of the volunteers and staff that combined work and fun all through the event. You all ROCK!”
