Maxine Evelyn Bowling, 97, of Stockton, Ga., passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022, in the South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on Feb. 19, 1925, in Valdosta, Ga., to the late Max Elliott and Pearlie Ganas Cox. She started working with the United States Postal Service at the age of 16, where she retired after a long career as the Postmaster in Stockton. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin Bowling and a son, Thomas Elliott Bowling.
Survivors include: son, John Franklin Bowling, Jr. of Stockton, Ga.; daughter, Mary Lee Mercer of Jasper; and Gary L. Bowling (Lisa) of Moultrie, Georgia; grandchildren, Shannon Bowling, Chad Bowling (Carrie), Ashley Bowling, Cole Bowling, Travis Bowling, Tonya Howell, David Howell (Pilar), Mac Howell (Brandy), John Howell, Brandon Bowling (Carmen) and Amy Bennett; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, at Stockton Baptist Church with burial following at Lovejoy Cemetery.
