Sherwood Harvard Boatright, 86, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Haven Hospice, Suwannee Valley Care Center, in Lake City following a brief illness. The Suwannee County native graduated from Aurora College, in Illinois and retired from Suwannee District Schools, where he taught American History at Suwannee High School for 50 years from 1958 to 2008. Boatright was a devoted member of Patmos Primitive Baptist Church.
Boatright was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Arch and Susan Elizabeth Starling Boatright; brothers, Thomas Lee Boatright, Carra Monroe Boatright, John Alfred Boatright, Allen C. “Pete” Boatright, Billy Ray Boatright and sisters, Honorine Harris, Winifred Padgett and Lillian Margaret Baker Wilson.
Boatright is survived by his brothers, Ronald O. Boatright (Ingrid) of Orange Park, Fla. and Spessard H. Boatright, of Tallahassee, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Annettee Boatright, of Jacksonville, Fla. and Alice Boatright, of Live Oak, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by the families of Walter Boatright, Jr. and Leenette McMillan-Fredriksson, whom he loved dearly.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 26, at 2 p.m., at Philadelphia Baptist Church, in McAlpin. The service immediately followed, with John-Walt Boatright officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
