Suwannee Springcrest Elementary (SSE) has put together the ultimate dream Team. Over 10 elementary school students have been selected for SSE’s brand-new Lighthouse Team. While the Lighthouse Team is similar to student government in actions and responsibilities, these students were not elected. Instead, most of them were asked to fill out an application and then have an interview after. The interviews were held by community members and they decided who would work best for the team. The Lighthouse Team is focused on being the face of the school. The students are required to be model students, leading by example on how to behave properly. Unlike student government, the Lighthouse Team focus much more on the day-to-day operations of the school. The team also gives tours to visitors of the campus, as well as partake in community service. They also focus on the seven habits of highly effective people. This includes being proactive; beginning with the end in mind; putting first things first; thinking win-win; seeking first to understand, then to be understood; synergizing and sharpening the saw. “I’m just so proud of them,” said Theda Roper, the teacher that organized the group. “Its so cool to see students grades three through five, work alongside each other.”
