Thursday, April 7, the Lafayette High School varsity softball Lady Hornets traveled to Dixie County to take on the Lady Bears. The Lady Hornets entered the game with their work cut out for them as they were facing the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) ranked number two team in the state. The Lady Bears have dominant pitching and a very dangerous lineup throughout, however, the Lady Hornets have shown glimpses, this season, of their potential.
The Lady Hornets started Emma Swann on the mound, who went one inning allowing two earned runs on two hits while striking out one. Haley Rosenbaum came on in relief and went the distance for the Lady Hornets and shutdown the Lady Bears allowing just two hits and striking out three while allowing zero runs. At the plate the Lady Hornets saw Swann, Rosenbaum, Maryssa Hicks and Ella Hancock collect multiple hits in the Lady Hornet’s win over the Lady Bears. Hancock went 2-3 at the plate and scored one run and drove in three runs for the Lady Hornets.
The game began with the Lady Bears scoring three runs in the first inning, but the Lady Hornets weathered the storm and settled down to battle back. The Lady Hornets did not answer until the third inning, where they scored two runs and again in the fourth inning, where they scored five more runs and took control of the game on their way to a 9-3 victory over the Lady Bears.
