Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a fatal accident that occurred at approximately 7:10 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 12, on County Road 137, east of Southeast 50th Drive, in Hamilton County.
According to the report filed by FHP, the pickup truck, driven by a 16-year-old male and containing two teenage passengers, all from Jasper, was traveling eastbound on County Road 137, approaching a left curve in the road.
For reasons unknown, the driver failed to negotiate the curve, causing the pickup truck to exit the north shoulder of the road. The truck then overturned multiple times, causing all three occupants to be ejected.
One passenger, a 14-year-old male, was pronounced deceased on scene. Both the driver and the second passenger, a 15-year-old male, were flown to UF Health Shands in Gainesville in critical condition. They are now reported to be in stable condition. The accident caused County Road 137 to be blocked for the investigation; however, the road is now reopened.
