Saturday, Nov. 27, was deemed a rivalry weekend in college sports, with Auburn going against Alabama, Michigan against Ohio State, Oklahoma against Oklahoma State and Florida against Florida State. What makes a rivalry is the players and students know each other from their high school days. So, the day is marked on their calendars for bragging rights.
Perhaps, for two former Lafayette High School band members, rivalry Saturday may have meant a little more than rooting for their favorite team. For Graham Jackson and Wyatt Buckner, it meant squaring off on Steve Spurrier Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Jackson wore orange and blue for the Florida Fightin' Gators Marching Band, while Buckner sported garnet and gold for the Florida State Marching Chiefs.
Jackson got the last laugh on the day, though, as the Florida Fightin' Gators Marching band played the loudest with the Gators outlasting the Seminoles, 24-21.
