Lonnie Eldon Combass, age 84, of Jasper, Fla. passed away on Monday, Dec. 6, 2021 (just shy of his 85th birthday) at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla., due to complications from a long-term illness. Combass was born in Hamilton County, Florida on Dec. 27, 1936 and was one of eight children born to the late Henry and Lenora Deas Combass. He attended Hamilton County Schools until it became necessary, as it was so often for young men in the 30's and 40's to leave school and go to work on the farms to help support the family. He grew up under difficult circumstances at a young age with the war and the depression and yet, Combass managed to press on and become, not just a good husband and father, but a good provider for his young family in the 50's as the country began to move forward. When Occidental came to Hamilton County, Combass worked as a welder and fabricator. As a young man, he farmed and as recently as the summer of 2021 he grew a large garden with vegetables to be put in the freezer to be enjoyed by the entire family and a lot of his neighbors in the community. He loved to vacation with the family and enjoyed river and offshore fishing and going to the beach. Always at his side to the very end, was the young woman he chose to be his wife, Joyce McCall Combass. What a beautiful reunion there was on Monday, Dec. 6, when he passed from this life to the next. It was then he joined his seven brothers and sisters, Gracie Miley, Lottie Greene, Sidney Combass, H.V. Combass, Cleveland Combass, Clinton Combass, Kervie Combass, along with his mother and father all waiting for his arrival in heaven. We have only our memories of loved ones gone on before us and memories never fade away if we hold them close to our hearts. One cannot forget Lonnie with that million-dollar smile and the laughter that was sure to follow. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Joyce McCall Combass; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Diana Combass of Indiana; his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and John Seasholtz of Tallahassee; five grandchildren, Heather Baardstu, Hayley Seasholtz, Frederick Singletary, Amy McCray and Megan Combass; and his seven great grandchildren, Isaac, Eli, Brayden, Arianna, Gabriel, Willow and Landon.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 11, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery.
