Kids dream of growing up and becoming something great; many want to leave an impact they'll be remembered by. Theresa Smith, the Senior Account Manager for the City of Live Oak, has done just that. Her journey with the City of Live Oak began in 1986, when she became an important part of the city and the community. Smith was the definition of professionalism; she greeted everyone with respect and represented the City of Live Oak in her daily life with grace and dignity.
Smith began her career as a cashier for the City of Live Oak, before moving into payroll, then payroll and accounting, until she reached the position of Senior Account Manager. Now, after 35-years of service, Smith has decided to retire.
“It has been a pleasure,” Smith said about what the past 35-years have meant to her. “I have gotten to meet a lot of great people and work with some amazing people. When people ask me how I did it for so long, I tell them I love what I do; I love my job.”
On Wednesday, Oct. 27, the City of Live Oak honored Smith's service with a retirement lunch. Many friends and family attended, including Smith's husband, Alfred Smith; Mayor Frank Davis and co-workers from various departments. Her last day was Friday, Oct. 29.
“I have spent this last week with my girls here at work and they know I am only a phone call away,” Smith said.
The City of Live Oak will forever be indebted to Smith for everything she has contributed. Still, Smith feels the time has come to step away, enjoy her retirement and turn the reigns over to whom the city hopes will be the next Theresa Smith.
Smith will enjoy her retirement with her husband, along with their three children and nine grandchildren. She may even catch a few more National Football League games, where she can enjoy watching her grandson, Will Harris, play for the Detriot Lions.
