The Branford High School Lady Buccaneers varsity volleyball team hosted the Bell Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, Nov. 2, in the Class 1A volleyball championship playoffs. The two teams are well versed with one another, as they take each other on twice every season. There is a ton of respect between the two programs, making for a great rivalry.
However, the two teams faced-off only once during the regular season, with the Bulldogs gaining the upper hand and eventually winning the day in four sets. On Tuesday, Nov. 2, the Lady Buccaneers were looking to right the ship, hoping to overtake the Bulldogs and advance to the Class 1A State Championships. However, the Lady Buccaneers found themselves with their backs against the wall early on, fighting off elimination. They quickly fell 2-0, after the Bulldogs won the first set, 25-18 and the second set, 25-22. In the third set, the Lady Buccaneers fought back and overcame the Bulldogs by a score of 25-10. However, the Bulldogs regrouped in the fourth set, ending the match and the Lady Buccaneers' season by a score of 25-18.
The Lady Buccaneers have reason to be proud, however, as they ended their season with a 12-7 record and were crowned as the Class 1A District 5 Champions.
