Michael Wendle Nettles, 61, of McAlpin, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021. The Lake City, Florida-born native lived in McAlpin for 30 years. Nettles loved his country and served in the U.S. Navy for seven years. He was a Godly man and a lifelong member of Live Oak Church of God. Nettles was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, going on cruises, hunting and fishing with his family and working on the family farm with his father, brothers, sons and nephews. Nettles was full of life and was always looking for the next adventure. He was a selfless and kind man who treated everyone he met with the upmost respect and courtesy. Nettles also loved athletics and Florida State football. Nettles spent many years coaching the youth of Branford in football and baseball and was also the "Voice of the Bucs," announcing the Branford High School football games on Friday nights for many years. Nettles was a kind and loving husband and a wonderful father to his two sons. Most importantly, Nettles loved his family immensely and enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could. Nettles adored his grand-babies and made every effort to be there for them in every way possible. Nettles is survived by his high school sweetheart, the love of his life and his wife of 42 years, Pamela Nettles, of McAlpin; parents, Wendle and Blanche Nettles, of Lake City; sons, Travis Nettles (Lindsay), McAlpin and Tyson Nettles (Leah), of O'Brien; brother, Andy Nettles (Lisa), of Lake City; brother-in-laws, Greg Hicks (Angel) and T.J. Hicks, both of McAlpin; sister-in-law, Dee Nettles, of Rapid City, S.D.; grandchildren: Bristol, Layla, Abbott, Matthew, Adele, Tanner and Freya; a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and many other children throughout his life that called him "Dad" that he treated with the same care and compassion as he did his own children. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Live Oak Church of God with Rev. Ken Henderson, Rev. Wes Tanksley and Teresa Brannon officiating. Interment was held at Leona Cemetery. Visitation will were on Friday, Oct. 22 at Daniels Funeral Home in Live Oak from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
