On Wednesday, Sept. 29, 22-year-old Cali Chaillou and her boyfriend, Lathon Hurst, were in a terrible car accident in Live Oak. Hurst escaped with minimal harm, but Chaillou had some more serious problems. She sustained a broken back in all three levels, a cracked chest wall and two fractured ribs. Within 24 hours, doctors told the Chaillou family she would need surgery. They were also warned that this was an extreme case, as the doctors claimed to have seen thousands of patients with the same breaks never walk out of the hospital. However, Brandy Chaillou, Cali's mother, had a different plan and a different hope.
Brandy quickly took to Facebook to ask for support and prayers from the community. The response was overwhelming. On Friday, Oct. 1, Chaillou went in for surgery, where she was operated on for four hours. Within 24 hours of her surgery, Chaillou was walking again and was released from the hospital three days later. Now, her family and loved ones report that she is doing well and her healing is miraculous.
"Thank you to everyone for all the prayers they said for us; they are all a blessing to us," Brandy said. "Thanks a million times infinity! My baby walked out and came home with me, praise God."
