Constance "Connie" Humphries Nettles, 70, of O'Brien, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021. She was surrounded by her loving husband of almost 48 years, Benny and their three daughters, Stephanie, Rachel and Shauna. She was a lifelong resident of Suwannee County and graduated from Branford High School in 1968. Nettles was employed with the V.A. Hospital in Lake City, Fla., for almost 30 years, where she proudly served Veterans. Nettles enjoyed spending time with her large family, friends and coworkers. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren, supporting and cheering them on at their extracurricular events. She thought education and learning were important. In her treasured role as a Nana, she always made time to study with and read to her grandkids. Always putting others first, she spread joy with her phenomenal cooking, baking and sewing skills. Her loving, genuine spirit and faith were a bright light and evident in her daily interactions with everyone.
Nettles was the daughter of the late Curtis Gibbs Humphries Sr. and Remmie Barnett Humphries. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Curtis Humphries, Jr. (Helen) and Jerry Humphries (Joyce). She is survived by her husband, Joseph Benjamin "Benny" Nettles; three daughters, Stephanie Meeks (John), Rachel Rhoads (Ashley) and Shauna Nettles; three sisters, Rita Humphries, Judy Grubbs (John) and Debbie Dampier (Keith); six brothers, Marvin Humphries (Glenda), Craig Humphries (Ryan), Rusty Humphries (CeCe), Matthew Humphries (Rachel), Mark Humphries (Kim) and Marty Humphries (Mary) and six beloved grandchildren, Liam, Carson, Nolan and Remmie Meeks and Brody and Kinley Rhoads.
Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, Oct. 15, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Daniels Funeral Home in Branford. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m., at Union Baptist Church in O'Brien. Daniels Funeral Home in Branford is in charge of all arrangements.
