Patricia "Pat" Garvin Oehlert, age 89, of Jasper passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at Lake City Medical Center in Lake City, following a brief illness. Pat was born in Macon, Ga., on April 5, 1932, to the late Louie and Florence McLendon Garvin. She lived most of her life in Aiken, S.C. She married the love of her life, Harvey E. Oehlert and, in 1959, they moved to Jaspe. They were welcomed into the community with open arms, as both of them had outgoing personalities. Harvey and she became active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Jasper. She was an ordained elder in the church and served as Treasurer for several years. She worked in Jasper for the Council on Aging in the accounting department until she was ready to retire. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey and her only son, John. When her eyesight began to fail, she decided on her own to sell her home and move to Live Oak into assisted living. It was her wish not to ever burden anyone by asking them to "take care of an old lady.” It was this attitude that endeared her to so many and she was never without friends offering to help her whenever she needed help. Survivors include her nephew, Mike Pringle and nieces, Debra Mazer, Danni Minteer and Barbara Ketcherside. Per her wishes, Pat will be cremated and buried beside her husband and son.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper.. Harry T. Reid Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
