One of the “victims” of COVID-19 is public gathering. Such is the case for the City of Live Oak’s annual 9/11 ceremony, held at the Fire Department. The big siren marks the times when the terrorists flew commercial airliners into the Twin Towers in New York, as well as when a plane was flown into the Pentagon and when an airliner, originally targeted to hit the White House, instead crashed in a field in Pennsylvania because of the heroism of some gutsy passengers.
This year, on the 20th anniversary of 9/11, the ceremony will take place at The American Legion, Harry C. Gray II Memorial Post 107, located at 10726 142nd St., in McAlpin, on Saturday, Sept. 11. The ceremony will be starting around 8 a.m., as the first plane struct at approximately 8:20 a.m. Since it takes over two hours for the entire event, The American Legion will probably only have time to recognize the two towers.
Please come out and help recognize this very significant event. There will be refreshments, discussions and more, but mostly the camaraderie that makes The American Legion, Harry C. Gray II Memorial Post 107 a very special place.
