Angie Perry was born March 2, 1974, in Live Oak, Fla. She grew up in Mayo and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1992. From there, Perry married her high school sweetheart Chan Perry. Perry later graduated from Valdosta State University with a bachelor's degree in K-6 Elementary Education. Perry has been a vital part of Lafayette Elementary a (LES) for 11 years. She began her career teaching fourth grade for six years and taught fifth grade math for five years.
Throughout Florida, every elementary school gets graded by student's test scores to reflect the caliber of work the teachers are putting in. The fifth grade students of LES have scored in the top five percent in math for several years. While Perry tries to shy away from any praise for her hard work and heartfelt dedication that has undoubtedly contributed to her student's success, she is quick to praise all the teachers of LES who have helped mold her students along the way. However, her passion for her students is clear to see by the hard work her students give back to her.
Perry is proud of her students and takes pride in the hard work each of her students put in. "Even as difficult as last year was with COVID, I pushed them very hard and they answered above and beyond the high expectations I had for them and they finished second among the state in test scores," Perry said. "I am very blessed to have such a supportive administration to support us with anything we need. I love showing kids all the different facades of math and how much we use math in every aspect of life."
Angie and Chan have made a life throughout the Mayo community; they have been married for 26 years and have three children: Grace Hingson and Adam and Joseph Perry.
