Samuel "Sammy" Charles McGauley, Sr., 79, of Jennings, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 15, at Lake City Medical Center following a brief illness.
McGauley was born in Jennings on Oct. 12, 1941, to the late Charles and Elizabeth Estelle Westberry McGauley. He worked most of his adult life in road construction for Ashland Oil Company and then later for the Hamilton County Road Department. McGauley loved to travel with his wife and his family. He enjoyed fishing and hunting as a young man, it just got a little harder as he aged. McGauley was a member of Truth Harbor Apostolic Church in Lake Park, Ga. He was a man of strong faith, one who loved to worship his God. He loved his pastor and prayed for him daily and he prayed for the ministry, as well as the needs of his church family. He was actively involved in church and the business of saving souls.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Latrelle Cromer McGauley, of Jennings; his son, Samuel C. McGauley, Jr. (Telia), of Lake Park; his daughter, Terry Viar (David), of Lake Park; his brother, James Buford "J.B./Peter" McGauley, of Echols County, Ga. and five grandsons, Matthew, Seth, Jonathan, Nicholas and Nathaniel.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 23, at Truth Harbor Apostolic Church with Pastor Ben Weeks officiating. Interment followed at Sassers Landing Cemetery near Jennings. Memorial contributions may be made to Truth Harbor Apostolic Church Building Fund at 4202 Loch Laurel Rd., Lake Park, Ga.
