JoAnn Adams Shotwell, 68, of White Springs, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 7, at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee after a brief illness. She was born in Memphis, Tenn., on April 2, 1953, to the late Paul and Joyce Adams. She has made the White Springs area her home since 1998, moving from the Dallas, Texas, area. Shotwell was a homemaker, as well as the owner of the Country Café with her late husband for over nine years. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to the beach, playing games on her iPad, game nights with her family, as well as spending time with her children, but more especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shotwell is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Tony D. Shotwell; brothers, David Adams, Kenneth Adams and Steve Adams and her father-in-law, Calvin Shotwell.
She is survived by her loving children, James Shotwell (Julie) of Fate, Texas, Angela Ogburn (Larry "Poohbear") and Sandy Ogburn ("Little" Randy), both of White Springs; sisters, Mary Griggs (Gary) of Quinlan, Texas and Debbie Adams (Ronnie) of Dallas, Texas; mother-in-law, Billie Ruth Shotwell of Emory, Texas; and grandchildren, Lara, Tyler, Cody, Toriegh, J.T., Jolee, Sierra, Jeremy, Dalton, Allison and Savannah. Great-grandchildren, Tayden, Raleigh, Bentley, Justice, Analynn, Avery, Rhipp, Wilder and Destiny also survive.
A funeral service for Shotwell was conducted on Sunday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Veronica Thomas and Pastor Byron Ogburn officiating. Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery in White Springs. The family received friends for a time of visitation on Saturday evening, Aug. 14, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
