On Friday, July 9, at 10 a.m. the new Hamilton County Elementary School (HCES) principal and several staff members met at the White Springs Public Library. Their goal was to have the kids of Hamilton County come out and enjoy popsicles with their new principal. In this way, they hope to help kids get excited about school as well as getting the community and parents involved in the educational system. The new Principal of HCES is Kathy Griffin; she has been an educator for over 20 years and was the assistant principal of HCES before being promoted.
The staff members who attended the event were Assistant Principal Charles Claridy, who is the School and District Teacher of the Year, as well as Assistant Principal Erica McCoy, first grade teacher Katlyn Evans and school social worker Amber Newsome. Principal Griffin hopes to host more events in an effort to bring the community and the school together to improve the learning environment for the children.
HCES will be holding their “Meet Your Teacher” event on Thursday, August 5, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 10. This year will be in-person learning with no virtual or hybrid options.
