Students experienced a tropical, exciting week while at the Antioch Baptist Church of Live Oak Mystery Island Vacation Bible School (VBS). The school ran from Monday, July 5, through Friday, July 9, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The church held VBS on campus, located at 5203 CR 795, in Live Oak.
Through the pages of scripture, students had the opportunity to find God. Every day students learned about a different attribute of God and how it applies to their lives, including "great, almighty, ruler, Emmanuel and trustworthy."
Students were divided into different age groups and rotated through activities. There was a craft and art room, where students made keepsakes, such as an island on a paper plate, shell necklaces, crosses and more. There was also a music activity in the sanctuary where students listened and danced to scripture songs. There was even a daily outdoor activity where the students had to work as a team. For example, on Tuesday, the students played with a parachute toy.
There was a daily snack area where volunteers prepared tropical-themed goodies, such as pond water (punch), fish bait (gummy worms), fish and chips (Lay's Classic Chips) and more.
Because of Tropical Storm Elsa, the church canceled VBS on Wednesday for the safety of their students and volunteers. The church caught up on their activities Thursday. On Friday night, volunteers, students and parents came together to close out the VBS with a parent night dinner.
The students enjoyed their time at VBS and learned a lot about God.
