As of 12:30pm on Monday July 5, the Lafayette County Board of County Commissioners declared a Local State of Emergency in response to Tropical Storm Elsa. As a result the Lafayette County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has activated and is working with the Lafayette County School District to open a general population shelter. The general population shelter will be opening tonight, Tuesday, July 6,at 8 p.m. for anyone who wishes to shelter in the Lafayette County High School Cafeteria. For anyone with special needs, a special needs shelter will be located in Suwannee County at Spring Crest Elementary School at 1419 Walker Ave SW, in Live Oak. For anyone who has questions regarding sheltering, please do not hesitate to contact Lafayette County Emergency Management at 386-294-1950.
At this time, there are currently no evacuation orders issued for Lafayette County.
At this time all county offices will remain open for normal business hours on Wednesday, July 7.
Lafayette County schools will be closed to students on Wednesday, July 7.
