With the 2020-21 school year underway, the Suwannee County School District (SCSD) hosted a “Back-to-School Trunk Bash,” which helped over 300 students prepare for the new year by giving away backpacks filled with school supplies. Suwannee County schools reopened on Monday, Aug. 10, and according to Event Coordinator Carla Blalock, the event was very successful in helping students get ready for their first day of school.
“The event went very well,” said Blalock. “We were glad we could help a lot of students get ready for the school year.” On Saturday, Aug. 1, parents and students lined up at the Branford Elementary School and the Suwannee County High School bus compound to receive school supplies. However, if anyone was not able to attend on Saturday, local schools have received backpacks that are available to students while supplies last.
“We have bags that we have divided among the schools and those in authority will make sure those in need will get those bags,” she said.
Blalock noted this event was only successful because of the local donations and volunteers who gave to make this event possible. “We would like to thank all of our community partners, businesses and faith-based partners,” she said. “We also want to thank the students and teachers that came out to volunteer. We look forward to working with the same and new partners for future back-to-school giveaways.”
