Mary Elizabeth Howes, age 94, of Live Oak, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Elba, Ala., on Feb. 10, 1926 to Lona Elizabeth Paget and Kierce Drayton Beasley.
Mary Elizabeth graduated from Suwannee High School. On April 6, 1947, she married Charles R. Howes at the Frist Baptist Church of Live Oak, Fla. In 1948, they moved into their current home in Suwannee County. Mary Elizabeth was a homemaker and known to many as the office manager at Dr. Sotolongo’s office. Her greatest joy was in caring for others, and she was notorious for sending care packages home with whoever entered her door.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her three brothers, David Tullis Beasley, Alex Beasley and Andrew Beasley.
She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Howes, Sr., of Live Oak; her daughter, Martha Sue Dale (Bob); two sons, Charles Howes, Jr. (Kathy) and Marty Howes (James); grandchildren: Tim Howes (Kim), Elizabeth Dale Clark (Carl), Patrick Jarvis (Holly), Kelley Howes Seeders, Matt Jarvis (Ashley), Walton Dale, Casie Zerbe (Brad), Alexandra Hill (Patrick) and Jon Howes (Gallon); great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Brandon Howes (Tim), Jackson and Owen Clark (Elizabeth), Kierceten Seeders (Kelley), Oscar and Olivia Dale (Walton), Avery, Aby and Elliott Zerbe (Casie), Grace Hunter and Frederick, Gavin and Vivian Hill (Alexandra), Ellis Howes (Jon); her niece, Gayle Beasley Engles; and nephew, Pat Beasley (Brenda).
A family graveside service was held at the Live Oak Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 7. Any gifts in her memory may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Live Oak.
