The Suwannee County School Board (SCSB) held a regular meeting on Tuesday, March 23, at 6 p.m. in the School Board Meeting Room, located at 1740 Ohio Ave. S, in Live Oak. Board members in attendance were: Jerry Taylor, District 1; Norman Crawford, District 2; Tim Alcorn, District 3; Ed Da Silva, District 4; Ronald White, District 5 and Superintendent Ted Roush. The meeting opened up with the pledge of allegiance, invocation and student remarks, led by the Suwannee Middle School majorettes. After they made their remarks, the majorettes then put on a fantastic performance for the school board.
After the Suwannee Middle School majorettes performed, Superintendent Roush went on to make special recognitions for three Suwannee County students. Although she wasn't available, Yohana Gonzalez was recognized for competing and representing the district at the Art in the Capitol Competition that took place in Tallahassee. Her certificate will be presented to her at a later time.
In addition, Bradley Harrison and Camron Wilson were both presented plaques for their achievement with the district spelling bee. Harrison, a fifth grader at Suwannee Riverside Elementary, won first place at the Suwannee County District Spelling Bee Thursday, Jan. 28, by correctly spelling the word "encore." Wilson, a sixth grader at Westwood Christian School, was named the Suwannee County District Spelling Bee's runner-up.
The next SCSB meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 13, at 9 a.m. in the School Board Meeting Room, located at 1740 Ohio Ave. S, in Live Oak.
